Osteopathy
Conditions treated by Philip Waldman D.O. FSCCO
Philip Waldman D.O. FSCCO is a Registered Osteopath and Cranial Osteopath at Chelsea Natural Health, Fulham Road, London SW10 and in Brighton & Hove, BN3. In his 34 years of clinical practice Philip has treated a very wide range of musculoskeletal and general health conditions. This page provides an overview — follow the links for detailed information on each condition.
The conditions below are those for which there is good evidence that osteopathy is beneficial, or where Philip has particular clinical experience and specialist interest.
Back pain and neck pain
Back and neck pain are among the most common reasons people consult an osteopath. Philip assesses the whole spine and pelvis, looking for areas of restriction or dysfunction that may be overloading the painful region. Treatment addresses the underlying mechanical causes rather than just the symptoms. Philip also advises on posture, workstation setup, mattresses and lifestyle factors.
Migraines
Philip has a particular clinical interest in the osteopathic treatment and prevention of migraines. By addressing musculoskeletal tension in the neck, upper back and cranium, osteopathy can reduce both the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. See the dedicated migraine treatment page for full details.
Headaches
Many headaches — particularly cervicogenic headaches and Greater Occipital Neuralgia — arise from mechanical tension in the neck and upper back. Philip uses a combination of osteopathy and cranial osteopathy to treat these effectively.
Sciatica
Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed or irritated, causing pain, pins and needles, numbness or weakness radiating from the low back into the leg and foot. Philip treats the underlying cause of the compression rather than just the symptoms.
Frozen shoulder
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) causes severe restriction of movement and pain in the shoulder joint. Philip is trained in the Niel Asher Technique for frozen shoulder, which can significantly reduce the duration and severity of the condition.
Neuralgia
Neuralgia is nerve pain — burning, stabbing or aching pain caused by pressure or irritation on a nerve anywhere in the body. Depending on the cause, osteopathy can help reduce the pressure on the affected nerve and relieve symptoms.
Slipped disc
A slipped (herniated or prolapsed) disc occurs when the soft inner material of an intervertebral disc pushes through the outer casing, potentially pressing on nearby nerves. Osteopathic treatment aims to reduce pressure on the disc and surrounding tissues and support recovery.
Whiplash
Whiplash injuries typically follow road traffic accidents and cause pain, stiffness and restricted movement in the neck, shoulders and upper back. Philip treats both the acute and longer-term effects of whiplash, addressing the mechanical dysfunction created by the injury.
